The Beer Blog: Yuengling Lager

OK, friends – the Four State Food Critic has held out long enough.  Time to talk about my favorite beer.

Yuengling Lager.

It’s the FSFC’s “go to” brand.  Bottles, cans, or draft - you can’t go wrong with golden hops and barley from America’s oldest brewery (they’ve been brewing beers since 1831).  I even run it in my home kegerator, so it’s always cold and ready to go.

Unlike Budweiser, Miller, or other more commercial pale lagers (the FSFC brands these as “NASCAR” beers – no offense), Yuengling is a heavier-style, medium-bodied lager with a distinctly rich, amber color and slightly sweet taste (derived from its roasted caramel malt).

Yuengling Lager is easy drinking and has a smooth finish.  It goes great with steaks, poultry, and even spicier Latin-inspired cuisine.  The average cost of a six-pack is around $7 (for bottles) and can be found at any local liquor store.  Look for their distinct green 12 ounce bottles sporting a yellow label emblazoned with an eagle.

Yuengling also offers 6 other types of beer and a few seasonal brews (the FSFC recommends the “Black and Tan” variety as another good choice).  Check them out at www.yuengling.com.

Hooray to the fine brewing folks from Pottsville, PA!
