No, it’s no joke – that’s the actual name of this week’s
beer. The Four State Food Critic is
usually not drawn to peculiar names or advertising gimmicks, but friends have
been telling me about this beer for a while now, so when I saw it on the shelf,
I had to try some.

Sweet Baby Jesus (which I’ll call “SBJ” because I’m tired of
typing it out) is produced by Baltimore’s DuClaw Brewery. This is a smooth porter with a nice
chocolate/coffee front end and a slightly bitter finish. It’s got a beautiful brown color and trust
me, once anyone sees you with the bottle in your hand, everyone wants to taste
it. This (like many other craft beers)
is a sipping beer, not a brew that you pound in the parking lot out of the back
of a truck.
SBJ can be found at liquor stores with a deep beer
selection. If you don’t see it, look for
any DuClaw products and then ask for it by name. Believe me, they’ll know what you’re talking
about. The average cost of a six-pack is around $10 (for bottles).
DuClaw Brewery offers several staple brands and multiple
seasonal brews. Check them out at www.duclaw.com.
