Sonic’s Cranberry Limeade – Is there a better drink out there?

Recently, I popped into the local Sonic Drive-In for a little afternoon nosh and rekindled an old love affair with one of my favorite guilty pleasures – the Cranberry Limeade.  One sip and the Four State Food Critic was crooning like Madeline Kahn at the end of ‘Young Frankenstein’ – “Oh, sweet mystery of life at last I’ve found you!” 

 

What makes this particular combination from Sonic’s extensive mix-and-match drink menu so delicious?  Is it the tanginess of the fresh squeezed lime juice (with real lime slices)?  Is it the subtle sweetness of the cranberry?  Is it those pellet-like ice cubes?  Is it the novelty of being served by a roller skating car-hop?  Whatever it is – I’m hooked.  The FSFC is not a violent man, but I’d run over a grandma in a Hoveround to get one of these things.  If there’s a better drink on the Sonic menu, I don’t even want to hear about it.
